Since 2007 Volunteer Medics Worldwide had been conducting humanitarian assistance missions directly to children and their parents who would otherwise be lost to the Taliban or other Anti-Afghan Government Recruiters. We have just spent over one hours typing a rather long story about our volunteer missions but the software on this site crashed and our title was too long or something. The point is that if we don't get to the children with aide and medical assistance then the bad guys will find a way to recruit them as use them to Spy, carry messages bewtween terrorist cells and even become roadside bombers themselves. After waiting for day at the steps of Indira Ghandi Children's Hospital (the largest of it;s kind in Afghanistan) the child and mother team arw approached by recruiters of anti-Afghan Government forces and offered help and assistance at a safe house or camp not far away. After saying NO a few times and after no help arrives from friendly sources, the mother gives in and she and her child are lead away. After treatment of wounds or injuries and food is given the indoctrination begins. Old Televison programs from America such as Dallas, Dynasty, Beverly Hills 90210 and other such programs depecting wealth are played over and over again. The new recruit is told that all Americans are rich, nasty and spoiled. They are also told that the Americans want to stay here (Afghanistan ) and steal from him and his future. He is further told that The Westerners and Americans are directly the cause for his problems such as shoeless feet, a belly full of worms, and lack of proper attire. It is not long before the child is ready to show his older and much stronger hosts that is man enough to help in some way. His mother was long agi being used for sex, cleaning and a slave to the men in the compound and he is told that if he wants het to continue to be cared for then he must do something to earn their trust. Messages are given to carry between terror cells, the child is asked to befriend Westerners and Americans who will be later sized up as targets for the kill. All of this because his mother had not .50 cents a 25 afghani Dollars for his medical care at the hospital. We at Volunteer Medics Worldwide are preparing to return once again to bring a large shipment of medical gear , medicine and equipment back to Afghanistan on 03 August 2009. We will also be doing clinics and training locals who wish to educate themselves help their fellow Afghani brothers and sisters.
