About three yrs ago i retired from working as a registered nurse for Kaiser Hospitals and went back to my Mother country Fiji Islands for a vacation and found the state of mecical care in need of a lot of help.My decision to help the people there came from my inability to help a mother who was dying from cervical ca leaving behind her disabled child to be taken care of by strangers. This mother never had a pap-smear and did know what pap-smear was. Upon further investigation i found that at least 60% of people lived at poverty or below poverty level and that an average person only earned $50to $100 a wwek to feed a family of 4to 6.The medical system is poor and unable to cope with all the problems.I then decided to build a preventative health clinic with the help of my family where i was born to provide free screening and education to all people of Fiji.At the same time we established a non-profit organization in the U.S.A to help fund this project. We have been in existance for three yrs and have been able to help hundreds of people in Fiji.We do not have a lot of money yet and am constantly looking for volunterrs to help.I usually make two trips to Fiji and spend an Average of 4 months there. For more info please log on to the website-www.fijiaidinternational.com or e-mail me.
