Shorty after a very terrible tornado past over parts of southern Indiana on the 2nd of March, 2012 Gerald Scott Flint, a highly trained and skilled rescuer left his home to once again answer the call for help. Governor Mitch Daniels had declared a state of emergency on that date and that was all Mr Flint needed to hear. It was his own fellow Indiana Hoosiers this time who were in need of care. Upon arrival , Flint could see the path of destruction left by the tornado in Heneryville, Maryville and Nabb, Indiana. Flint had a friend, Sgt Major Curt Hughes and his wife Marcia whom Gerald has known for more than thirty years. With his friends in Salem , Indiana which was very near the path of the storm, Flint became very concern. He knew that he needed to do all that he could to assist his fellow man but in the back of his mind he needed to know that Curt ( a brother Marine) was ok and not suffering or injured by the storms. He then made calls to other members of Volunteer Medics Worldwide to see who might be available to come to the area and volunteer with rescues, cleanup and general volunteer work the next day. The night would pass and with the dawn came the real truth about how much damage and loss of life had taken place there. There were homes, cars, buses and trucks all smashed beyong recognition. There was a school in Henryville which was all but leveled to the ground. The destruction was like Flint had witnessed working so many other like events during his twenty plus years of disaster team service. Gerald Scott Flint took command of his volunteers and recruited a few others to help with moving boxes of supplies, debries, taking messages and getting information out to those without any type of communication. All went pretty well until a few of the volunteers began to request large amounts of Volunteer Medics Worldwide stickers which are given to place on one's vehicle , text books , t-shirts or such. The group of evil doers were out collecting funds under VMW's name and ended up with a large sum of money which they placed on credit cards under their own names. It did not appear that they had any intention of using those funds to assist the victims of this horrible storm. A Mr Jerry Lucas, RN of Deputy, Indiana took the call from those who were taking the illegal collects for themselves. MR Lucas seemed to be very close to these people and said that he would make every effort to deal with the media and Law Enforcement. When Mr Flint learned of the fraud that took place he straight away called the Department Of Justice and the Department Of Homeland Security and reported these individuals by name. Not long after that he got a call from a man named Matthew Busick who claimed to be a detective with the Indiana State Police. Flint asked him how he could be of service and stated that it was he who had made the calls to the government fraud lines to report the fraudulent funds collectors The Jefferson family being at the top of the list. Mr. Flint agreed to meet with Trooper Busick to better inform him of what he felt had happened at the disaster site but Flint was away at Scott AFB, IL out processing and as he retired from the United States Air Force. The Trooper called him a liar and said that he could see that Flint's phone was being used in Indiana and that Flint was avoiding him. Busick's behavior was so strange that Mr Flint requested to speak to his supervisor and he was passed up the chain of command. Flint agreed that he would drive several hours to meet with Buscik on March 20th at Indina State Police Post #54. Mr Flint made it to the appointment early and waited for Busick to call him back. Trooper Busick was higly unprofessional using poor language, calling Flint a fraud himself and saying that Flint had never been in the Military. He offered Flint some coffee which appeared to be tainted with something that made Flint feel uncomfortable and make two trips to the toilet. Trooper Busick had no intention of getting the truth about the Jeffersons and the stolen money but he instead arrested Mr Flint to cover for those who really committed a crime in Henryville, Indiana. Mr Flint was not read his rights nor did he have any idea as to why he was being arrested. He was taken to Jackson County , Indiana Jail where he spent eight days even after his bail of 1,005 dollars cash had been posted by Sgt Major Curt Huges. Flint was sick with watery bowels , severe chest pains and massive headaches the entire time. The food that he was given was fit more for animals in the field that for a two time war veteran and humanitarian that had spent his life caring for others. on the 27th of March, Gerald's son Justin's birthday, Mr Flint was taken only for a brief moment and placed in black and white stipes like a convicted felon should wear. He was then called in front of an ABC News Reporter, Angela Hill from New York who began to interrogate Mr Flint about his past military service and medical training. Mr Flint did his best to answer the questions and stated that he had done nothing that would require and medical license in Henryville not anywhere else for that matter. After the interview wsa over Mr Flint was placed in his own clothes and chained at his feet, knees, back and wrist. He was then taken into a patrol car and the trip to Clark County jail began. About 30 mins later on Interstate 65 South the patrol car broke down with a flat tire and other problems. The Clark County officer and driver was unprepaid and did not have a spare tire, lugg wrench , safety equipment or the numbers to call for help. The Clark County Officer rolled up all windows, took the keys from the ignition and looked the car. He walked to the back where ABC NEWS Reporter, Angela Hill was in a rental car having been allowed to follow Flint in the transport vehicle. Flint recalls being so close to the road that the semi trucks were nearing hitting the partol car he was in, the heat inside the car began to climb while all the while the clark County Officer sat with ABC New's Angela Hill in her airconditoned rental. Flint was fully clohed and without air he began to have difficulty breathing and his chest pain increased. He was having short blackout spells and began to scream for help and air. At the last moment the officer pulled Mr Flint from the car and took him to the side of the road where Flint fell (being shackled) and he blackout. Flint remember only small portions of what happened but Angela Hill was attempting to put something into his mouth as he was vomiting blood and stomach contents. He later learned that Angela Hill also attempted to film and board the ambulance during life saving proceedures for flint by the rescue crews. Mr Flint had suffered a cardiac event and was rushed to Scott County Emergency Department and later transfered to the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Clark Community Hospital in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
